In honor of International Women's Day, a group of remarkable women from the Finance Bureau of Liwan District participated in a special Canton Embroidery experience at the heritage base. This activity aimed to enhance cultural literacy, aesthetic appreciation, and strengthen bonds of friendship while experiencing the joy of traditional embroidery and stitching their own path to happiness.
An Insight into Canton Embroidery
At the event, Master Wang Xinyuan began by explaining the rich history of Canton Embroidery, its unique stitching techniques, and its use in daily life. Through the storytelling of this ancient craft, the participants were able to truly appreciate its complexity and charm.
Master Wang demonstrated the embroidery techniques, with each stitch flowing seamlessly—colors intertwining to create a stunning dance of light and shadow, culminating in a beautiful piece of art.
Hands-On Experience
In the second half of the workshop, participants learned the traditional "splitting threads" technique, which is a foundational aspect of Canton Embroidery. This ancient method is recorded in classical texts: “For every 30 threads twisted together, each must be split into two strands and tightly twisted to form a single, consistent thread.” The attendees were thoroughly engaged, eagerly picking up embroidery needles and stitching their own designs.

As modern life becomes increasingly noisy and fast-paced, Master Wang Xinyuan and the participants found solace in the timeless art of Canton Embroidery. It was an honor to embark on this journey together, using our hands to weave stories, connecting past traditions with the present.

Each participant, guided by Master Wang and the supportive instructors, embroidered their own stories of elegance on the fans. The world of embroidery revealed itself through the smooth lines, rich colors, and intricate compositions. Whether delicate or charmingly naive, each piece exuded its own artistic charm. The experience made everyone appreciate the soothing and almost meditative pleasure of creating with needle and thread.
At the end of the workshop, participants took photos with Master Wang Xinyuan and the women from the Liwan District Finance Bureau. It was not just a lesson in traditional craftsmanship, but also a beautiful meeting of creativity and culture.
